Isa Huss Artistic concern
The artist aim is to capture traces of time in painting: the long-lasting sustainable beauty of 'old weathered spaces' - in the abstract and in the concrete. She calls these traces Life-Structures.
In abstraction, she is concerned with the powerful energy and the pace during the act of painting: making the emotion visible. In figuration, it is about the timeless aesthetics and the peaceful atmosphere of the motifs. About humanity without explicitly depicting people. The viewer himself is the human element in an aesthetic place of lingering.
The enlarged depiction of details, e.g. zooming in on the motif, figuratively stands for a closer look in general. Life leaves 'marks and scratches' that Isa Huss consciously emphasizes on the canvas. In 'empty lived spaces' in which man and time have left traces.
Isa Huss Working method
"I feel an inner drive to paint and I've got the feeling: I have to do this" says the artist. In everyday life and while traveling, she sees 'beauty' in incidental semi-weathered motifs. This personal perspective is meant to become visible on the canvas.
At first, the impressions are recorded with sketches, photos and color experiments. When it comes to the canvas, decades-old traces of weathering emerge layer by layer. The top paint is partly removed again. Here the lower layers are revealed and combined to form a complex composition.
In each painting, she strives for a balance between complexity and simplicity: The ideal proportion between vibrant intensity in detail, and harmony of color & form in the overall expression.
